Perched high up on the cliffs of Cape Panwa on the most south eastern tip of Phuket Island is Sri Panwa, with its lush jungle setting and sweeping uninterrupted vistas it’s truly a place that has to be seen to be believed.
On the drive out to the cape as we passed quaint local towns located throughout the interior of the island, we were filled with excitement as we had never heard of, let alone experienced this side of Phuket. Cape Panwa is like a well-hidden secret that only those in the know seem to know about, with only a few hotels and resorts located in this area.
Arriving at the gates of Sri Panwa, we were completely taken aback by its beauty as we drove up the steep winding driveway up the mountain through the dense tropical forest to reception… our excitement levels were on a high! Greeted at Reception by the ever-so lovely check-in staff, we were escorted by two hosts to our villa in one of the resort’s 24 hour on-call private tuk tuks.
Swinging open the door to our luxury one bedroom pool villa we were welcomed by one of those sights you only get to experience a few times in a lifetime, total uninterrupted 360° views of the shimmering blue Andaman Sea. The architecture and interior design of the villa is a stunning blend of tropical, contemporary designs with warm wood tones mixed with cooling grey slates, promising the utmost privacy and seclusion. The villa consists of two wings, to the left is the lounge and dining area with a fully equipped kitchen and entertainment area complete with oversized daybeds for relaxing indoors and sun-beds outside on the deck for soaking up rays and taking in the views. On the right is the main master bedroom wing with a huge king-sized bed and a few steps down is the sunken lounge room, all with floor to ceiling glass doors and windows that completely open up to the sea breeze and majestic views. Following through to the master bathroom fitted out with a double jacuzzi bath, indoor and outdoor showers, a steam room and dressing room.
Let’s not forget the private, 15-metre infinity pool that wraps around the entire master bedroom wing of the villa. Accessible from any side, it was amazing to be able to literally dive in to the pool straight from the sunken lounge, bathroom or main bedroom.
Sri Panwa has some amazing dining options with 6 locations throughout the resort. Starting at Baba Poolclub where breakfast is served and later in the day serving up some of the best traditional Thai cuisine, Italian, BBQ and Hotpot selections, you can choose to sit inside or outside atop the cliffs and take in those signature views that Sri Panwa are famous for. Baba Soul Food for amazing Thai food, Baba Iki if you are craving some delicious Japanese, Baba Hot Box for mouth watering BBQ meats and seafoods and Baba Chino for modern contemporary Chinese dishes. Last but not least brings us to Baba Nest. Baba Nest just like the rest of Sri Panwa has to be seen to be believed. Perched high up in the sky with 360° views complete with an infinity pool encompassing its entirety. Baba Nest has been awarded the Top Rooftop Bar Award 3 years running by Condè Nast Traveler and for good reason… their signature cocktails paired with those unbeatable sunset views are breathtaking.
The resort also offers up some world class spa treatments at the in-house Cool Spa. This serene space is like an escape from the real world into a place of peace and tranquility with a spectacular list of holistic treatments ranging from massages, reflexology, facials, body scrubs, water treatments and manicures and pedicures.
If you have had enough of relaxing and would like to burn off some of those calories from all of the amazing dishes you’ve been enjoying, Sri Panwa offers up some great activities. Including private day trips to some of the surrounding islands, yoga and stretching classes, an amazing gym, tennis lessons, Muay Thai boxing sessions, kayaking or you could do what we did and just simply go for a long walk along the extensive winding paths throughout the tropical gardens of the resort and make your way down to the resorts private beach.
Sri Panwa truly is a place where privacy meets utmost tropical luxury with its private villas perched 60 meters above the sparkling Andaman Sea and really is a place that must be seen and experienced to believe.
