Most people coming to Kanchanaburi will more than likely just get a room in town for a night or two, see the notable sights like the famous bridge over the River Kwai, Erawan Falls and the Hellfire Pass and then move on. But tucked away 12 kilometres out of town on a pristine stretch of the river is X2 River Kwai Resort. On the short drive out of town as you pass the fields of verdant green farmlands, you really feel like you’re getting away from it all.
Arriving at the resort, you are greeted with a warm smile and served a welcome drink called PURPLE RAIN ( a refreshing tonic concoction full of antioxidants and nutrients). We were immediately taken aback by the slick, modern industrial-chic design with its clean lines, polished concrete, glass and warm timbers. If you look closely the architecture is reminiscent of the bridge that Kanchanaburi is famous for. It is like nothing we have ever seen before – a stunning space and extremely well considered design.
We were lucky enough to stay in the XFloat Luxe Cabin and as we entered, we were immediately met with a breathtaking view of the river, the cabin itself had full amenities – decadent bathroom with full bath, entertainment multimedia suite, complimentary smartphone and for the adventurists; a kayak parked right out on the deck. Not to mention taking a few steps up the side of the cabin to the amazing rooftop daybed in full sun and view.
Truly is such a beautiful space. Going to sleep on the luxurious King Size bed to the sounds of the river was one of the best night’s sleep we’ve ever had, not to mention watching the sunset from the deck or rooftop of the cabin.
We wanted to witness the famous sunrise over the river, so we headed to the beautiful Infinity Pool for a morning swim – which was the perfect spot to watch the sun rise. It was truly one of those magical moments that have to be experienced to be believed.
After a lovely sunrise swim, it was time for the decadent champagne breakfast at the Bridge Bar & Bistro. Serving up first class gourmet food made to order from the menu, alongside amazing coffee and tea – it was the perfect way to start you day. Their lunch and dinner options were amazing, and the cocktail menu is also worth a try – we recommend the Signature Cocktails: Lychee Coconut Coladas and Red Ruby Rosemary. So good!
The service at X2 River Kwai is what really makes the resort. The staff were so kind and always there to help and nothing was ever too much trouble. From the moment you check in to when the time comes to check out, the service was flawless. We will definitely be back to X2 River Kwai Resort again very soon.
